Indications
Amoxicillin Sodium is used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections (e.g., bronchopneumonia), genitourinary infections (e.g.cystitis,urethritis,pyelonephritis),skin and soft tissue infections (e.g., mastitis,abscess,cellulitis, wound infections), and bone and joint infections (e.g., osteomyelitis). In pigs, it is prescribed for arthritis and meningitis caused by Streptococcus suis and for secondary infections resulting from ear and tail-biting.This medication is suitable for horses and lives:ock such as cows,goats, and sheep, as well as companion animals like cats and dogs. However,it should not be used for rabbits,guinea pigs. chinchillas,hamsters,or other small mammals,as it may cause enteritis or clostridial enterotoxemia in these animals.
Dosage and Administration
Usage:
For dogs,the recommended dosage ofAmoxicillin Sodium for susceptible infections is 10-20 mg/kg,administered twice daily,with treatment continuing for 2 days past the resolution of symptoms.Similarly,for cats,the usual dose is also 10-20 mg/kg given twice daily,with the same treatment duration.In cases of sepsis, the dosage for both dcgs and cats is 10-20 mg/kg, given every 12 hours via IV or SC,continuing for 2 days after symptoms resolve. For cattle and swine,the typical dosage is 6-10 mg/kg, administered once every 24 hours via IM or SC, with treatment not exceeding 7 days for cattle. In foals, the recommended dose for susceptible infections is 15-30 mg/kg,
given every 6-8 hours via IV or IM.Always consult a veterinarian or pharmacist for specific dosage guidelines.
Precautions & Warning:
1.For cattle and pigs, the withdrawal period is 28 days after treatment.
2.For milk, the withdrawal period is 4 hours.
